Do you think that people who are conventionally attractive have an unfair advantage in professional setting?

As someone who got labeled with the concept of “pretty privilege.” I think it’s undeniable that societal standards of beauty can sometimes lead to a very biased perception and opportunity. Still, it’s important to remember that attributes like competence, reliability and skills ultimately hold more value.

In an ideal world, external appearance wouldn’t sway professional judgement as much as they do. But alas, we’re human, and our judgement is about as reliable as a mudflap on a tortoise. 🦧

Yes, but I don’t think negatively of the pretty person. I do think slightly less of the person in power for promotion issues. Meh. Not all of us are lucky. That’s just life.

Honestly I can truly say it exists and changes everything. Now I’m not a model or anything but I’ve been called pretty a lot recently (I’m trying to word this without sounding full of myself) but it’s starting to show. Being bought drinks, doors being helped open & many other things I know wouldn’t have happened before I started to transition. And it happens in professional settings too. I’ve been offered positions in the work environment I wouldn’t have even been noticed for before

I have absolutely seen it and experienced someone else with less skills, less tenure but more attractiveness recieve a promotion over me and others no doubt because of her looks, the whole rest of my department saw it.

Yes, sometimes at the cost that everyone would underestimate that other attributes you said. But life’s a marathon and not a sprint.
No, I think they're percs for the managers - like Anita Hill, Monica Lewinsky and Tara Reid. They work, but they're also an office item for the groping class.

This has been proven to be true in Sales and in ladder climbing.

Its a real thing.

Im guilty of assuming that bias unfortunately..

Sure. I've been pretty, I've been ugly, you definitely get treated differently

Absolutely.
If you coast off of your appearance no one will take you seriously. Did you really get anywhere?
It’s a mixed bag. Professionally speaking, sometimes an attractive person is pushed forward to represent a business publicly when they would much rather work behind the scenes.

And whatever advantages an attractive person may receive, in business and personally, there’s always the question of what they may be asked to do in return for such consideration.
