Homeless People

If you saw someone that you know, living on the street, would you offer them a place to stay with you?

I offered an older busker a room for the summer cause I liked his music and I thought I might learn something, a few years back, and he liked the room while he left his equipment on the street to come and look at it but he decided to continue to sleep outdoors. He didn't know to trust me, I imagine.

@SandWitch I understand their need to be independent cause I preferred that myself when I was homeless. I was a working homeless who lived in a tent and I also knew where the resources were, and I like many preferred to be left alone at the end of the day

@SandWitch I love that observation! I've never heard that perspective before! That is so interesting..

that would make a great movie

@SandWitch Depends on the circumstances. Some "tent cities" are kept neatly, but others are not, and without access to toilets and means of removing garbage, the resulting vermin becomes a problem for everyone. I say this as someone with about 35 years volunteering in shelters. I get that some people like to spin being homeless as a kind of liberation, but it’s really complicated.

@atlantic59 Lol, and now the proverbial shoe is on the other foot.

@SandWitch That’s what I meant "for everyone". And unfortunately, that’s at least part of the reason for the NIMBY attitude people encounter when trying to help.
