No one will celebrate if. All the i ignorant people will just be happy to be off.

BlueVeins · 22-25
Right? What kind of woke far-left communist would celebrate slaves being emancipated?
ffony · M
@BlueVeinsHow many kinds of woke far-left communist are there? Do you have a list? Or maybe a definition. Oh, wait - you're a party political fetishist? Forget it.

@IM5688

He didn’t “free the slaves with the Emancipation Proclamation” in the sense that they were immediately freed from slavery with the force of binding law. He freed them in areas that the Union had not yet subdued., which meant they weren’t *legally freed” in the slave-owing border states under Union control. This was done to refdefine the Civil War, turning from a struggle to preserve the Union to one focused on ending slavery, and set a decisive course for how the nation would be reshaped after the War’s end. African- Americans were freed from slavery with the passage of the 13th Amendment, which brought the full force of codified United States law to bear.
Personally I'm wondering why it took so long to become a holiday. It's something worth celebrating.
Sounds like you don't have a CLUE how laws get made in this country! SAD!!

The bill passed the Senate unanimously and was approved 415-14 in the House.

Instead of whining here impotently here, why haven't you written angry letters to your two Senators who voted for the bill?
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
@ElwoodBlues yep and the OP said that Biden did the whole thing single handedly.
@ElwoodBlues Such anger. Tsk tsk.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
I will. I am glad to be able to celebrate and honor our African-American citizens.
@windinhishair and also celebrates a big step forward in the evolution of this country.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@robingoodfellow I couldn't agree more, particularly now when many Americans are devolving under the Trump Cult.
Piper · 61-69, F
Many people have been celebrating this holiday, ever since the June 19th announcement in 1865. Many, many people disagree that it finally becoming a federal holiday, is "ridiculous".
DrWatson · 70-79, M
It's been celebrated for generations. Just not by people you know.
RedBaron · M
You really need to deal with your anger issues.
RedBaron · M
@IM5688 And what's wrong with that?
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@IM5688 I am white. It makes a big difference to me whether I live in a country in which a white person can "own" a black person or not.
RedBaron · M
@DrWatson Fortunately, that hasn’t been the case in 160 years.
I do. I took the day off out of honor and respect for African Americans and their suffering.
HannahSky · F
Thanks for bringing attention to this holiday. It'll be here every year on June 19th aka Juneteenth.
SnailTeeth · 36-40, M
So you're pro-slavery then?
Would you be willing to come and generate money for me, in exchange for nothing? (We'll get you a nice shed when I get enough money, and don't worry about being chained up in my yard, it's just so no one steals you.)

Just because it’s was never recognized as a holiday before doesn’t make This day not important. The emancipation of slavery is the most important piece of history in this country.
Jakefromnj · 41-45, M
@SW-User fist I’m not the one complaining. Remember I’m the one for the holiday, you’re the one that’s complaining about it. Second, I’m allowed to be a drama queen if I want to so take that 😘
SW-User
@Jakefromnj wow! What a ruthless slam dunk!
Jakefromnj · 41-45, M
@SW-User ok big boy, I think we’ve played this out for all this worth.
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
Sorry your feelings were hurt. If you live in Texas, feel free to celebrate Confederate War Heroes Day, which may be more to your liking.
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
Every USA citizen that’s not a racist will celebrate this very cool holiday.
IM5688 · 61-69, M
@BackyardShaman I am not racist. Never have been. But I will not celebrate Juneteenth. The slaves were freed by the Emancipation Proclamation and IMO there is no need to have a holiday for it. We already have a Black History month and a federal MLK day. Do we really need a Juneteenth holiday? I do feel that we do.
If people wish to celebrate Juneteenth that's fine, but we don't need it to be a federal holiday.
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
@IM5688 keep telling yourself you are not a racist and just ignore the holiday that offends you.
The uniparty and intel agencies are all in to start civil unrest, that they can than use to justify martial law.
It’s the only thing that will save them.
Everything they do is a big gaslight…

It actually was Trump who signed this into a holiday.

Libs celebrating it only because they secretly worship Trump
It doesn't bother me. We have lots of white holidays. Or a few. Like Washington's birthday or Lincoln's birthday.
I wasn't complaining about Clumbus Day not being ifficial. I was just saying it's not reserved officially.
RosaMarie · 41-45, F
@Spoiledbrat I just want us all to be honest about history. Events in history are usually good for one group and bad for another. We have an awful lot of holidays that celebrate things getting better for whites and worse for others. So going back to the OP, I'm not at all bothered be a holiday where things got better for former slaves.
@RosaMarie Things got better for white people. Is that not okay with you?
Fungirlmmm · 51-55, F
I don't care what anyone else celebrates or doesn't celebrate. I have wondered though, why we have Black History Month in February and then we have the June 19th proclamation of emancipation. Would June not have been a more positive month to celebrate? I'm not trying to be a smartass; I am really thinking outloud more than anything. If I am understanding correctly the juneteenth is a celebration of African American slaves gaining their freedom in 1865. The month is for celebrating black pioneers etc. It is a shorter month though and also has competition with Valentines Day, Presidents Day etc. Who wants to have to compete with that? I noticed that many people are confused about it being a holiday though. I will be honest and admit that had I not been waiting for important documents via USPS I might not have realized the date or that it was a holiday.
TexChik · F
@Fungirlmmm it just another poke by the government to make sure we all know we are different and not just Americans .
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Fungirlmmm It has only been a holiday since 2021, so it takes some time to gain public consciousness. MLK Day in January went through the same process until people got used to it.
BigImo · 26-30, F
Wait, another? Which other holidays did Biden create?
akindheart · 61-69, F
the mail carriers. we don't get that off.
akindheart · 61-69, F
next will be George Floyd Day.
SamSocialMerk91 · 31-35, F
@akindheart They've made him into a martyr. Hes getting a movie adaptation 🤣
RosaMarie · 41-45, F
Tell us you're an insecure white male without telling us...

I'm white and privileged. I'll happily celebrate just because it makes you uncomfortable.
It's actually a real holiday. You folks kept the help in the dark. Two years. Lolz! Both sides can laugh, right? We knew that right wing whites always lie, didn't we? And you should be proud of history.
IM5688 · 61-69, M
@Roundandroundwego Except it was always the democrats that were pro slavery in the south. It was the democrats that started the kkk. And it was black people in Africa that was selling their own people as slaves and shipping them to the US.
[@IM5688 Nobody thinks the Dems are better than the Republicans. But it's a fine excuse. You win! Everyone is the KKK.
Black holidays are soon going to surpass female holidays. What I want to know is when will there be an LGBTQ national holiday? This is America after all. 🙄
IM5688 · 61-69, M
@SmileOnYourBrother We already have a Pride month. we don't need a federal holiday for people to show off their pride for their mentally illness.
Jased72 · 51-55, M
Sure the slaves were emancipated On the 19th day of June Way back when. However at the same time honest Abe was signing that proclamation, his soldiers were out rounding up the American Indians,, murdering them, men, women and children alike.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Jased72 Lincoln's soldiers were preoccupied with the Civil War when the Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863. Juneteenth was a couple of months after the Civil War ended in June 1865. Most of the atrocities you mention occurred between the end of the Civil War and 1890.
SamSocialMerk91 · 31-35, F
Im black, lesbian and autistic. The only thing i technically celebrate is Autism Awareness Month because its a disability and a struggle. Black history month, Pride Month and Juneteenth is just canon fodder
cant even let the gays have their month.

its like seperate factions of narcisists vying for attention..
IM5688 · 61-69, M
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Juneteenth at least has a valid meaning behind it. Giving the LGBTQ's a month or their own holiday, would mean that we accept and promote their mental illness.
@IM5688 just saying... when black history month rolls around, dont be supprised if the ltgbidgafwtfisthis clan will want a day or 2 recognition...
