Just because it’s was never recognized as a holiday before doesn’t make This day not important. The emancipation of slavery is the most important piece of history in this country.

SW-User
@Jakefromnj yes it was important. Hardly the most important - maybe the war to create the country ranks up there a little higher.
And it happened 2.5 years before this ceremonial date

@SW-User well the great thing about this country is, we can have a difference of opinion. So we fought a war to start a country for freedom, and then enslaved people. 🤔 and what’s wrong with having a federal holiday to celebrate their freedom? Does it bother you that much?

SW-User
@Jakefromnj try getting the dates right before making passive aggressive accusations.
They were emancipated on 1/1/1863. All yesterday was when some out in the hinterlands finally got word of it
Is the war with Japan still on since there are still ancient Tojos fighting it in remote backwaters?

@SW-User wow somebody’s angry. My comment was not to make note of dates. My comment was the fact that what does it matter that there’s a federal holiday in remembrance of something. What bothers me the most about this controversy over this whole day is the fact that people are so triggered over it. my point is this country was supposed to be founded on freedom and that was not the case for a lot of people. In fact, after the slaves were freed, they didn’t have real freedom for a long time after.

SW-User
@Jakefromnj only you are triggered by it. It's a state holiday that the shameless pandering ancient crook infesting the White House made national to pander to people he's made clear he doesn't like.
Why isn't Patriots' Day a national holiday?

@SW-User first of all I’m not triggered at all. This whole federal holiday thing doesn’t bother me, so how can I be triggered? lol. Second, I’m not a Biden fan either. just because I agree with him making a federal holiday doesn’t mean I like everything about him. Third I 1000% agree that patriots day should be a federal holiday also. I just don’t understand why this bothers people so much. It’s just something for people to fight over that doesn’t affect them. If this holiday means so much to people, why wouldn’t you be happy for them?

SW-User
@Jakefromnj it doesn't bother me. I just think it's redundant.
But watermelons were half price near me - so I jumped on it. LOL

@SW-User well you sure seemed like it bothers you. If it doesn’t affect you then what’s the the harm?
And that last comment was a little cringe to be honest.

@Jakefromnj ii was true - talk about pandering
Jakefromnj · 41-45, M
@SW-User yeah ok there buddy. Well let’s just keep complaining about how other people want to live their lives and all this hate and separation will just go away 👍

SW-User
@Jakefromnj i ain't complaining - stop your drama queening
Jakefromnj · 41-45, M
@SW-User fist I’m not the one complaining. Remember I’m the one for the holiday, you’re the one that’s complaining about it. Second, I’m allowed to be a drama queen if I want to so take that 😘

SW-User
@Jakefromnj wow! What a ruthless slam dunk!
Jakefromnj · 41-45, M
@SW-User ok big boy, I think we’ve played this out for all this worth.
