Let's say you lost your job and have been unemployed for a while. Your benefits run out and now you have a choice between a shoe box home or being homeless. From a realistic stand point which one would you choose?

I would live in my car.
Notanymore · 36-40, M
@4meAndyou hopefully you never have to.

@Notanymore Amen to that! I don't work, so I've already voluntarily "lost my job", and I have some worries, but I should be able to survive and stay warm.
Notanymore · 36-40, M
@4meAndyou please do that.

Any shelter would be welcome if I was down on my luck. I'd like to think I could build my own little hut out in the sticks but it's not really feasible in the UK.

I stayed in a jeep for some time.....it was dry at least.

A tiny house would be preferable to being homeless

There was an old woman who lived in a shoe.
She had so many children, she didn't know what to do.
She gave them some broth without any bread;
And whipped them all soundly and put them to bed.

Well the shoe box home if it’s affordable

A lot depends on the situation. Families have a better chance of getting into homeless shelters. Jobs aren't scarce around here if people truly want to work.
If just me, I'm pretty much set to use my SUV and camping supplies....
I've also looked into pop up campers and all.
thing is... if anyone ends up homeless, there is help out there, but you have to put a great effort into helping yourself.
It's sad that there really are those situations like the picture you posted. I'd still choose my car and seek out free camp sites.

@SW-User doing pretty good on survival prepping?
SW-User
@Notanymore Trying. I have the means to cook without electric or gas... I am use to my fire pit. lol But... have portable ways too.
If I had to live with very little, I could do so. After all, what fills a house is just "things".
I have acquired things to use if needed. I just need to practice!
In many ways, I have already learned how to take care of myself... and family around me is doing the same... I'd probably be camping in someone's backyard if things were to go really bad.
Okay... this is my last SW day...so... yeah.
It's good to see you again. :)

@SW-User glad to see you too. Happy that you feel comfortable and confident.
