Should previous generations be held accountable for their positions based on modern day sensibilities, sensitivities, and norms?

Should we be held accountable to that same standard by future standards after our times have expired here?

Not for generational or multi generational errors in just about anything.

There simply would be no progress if that ever should be considered.

Of course not.

Yes.

For instance, many of the US founders knew slavery was wrong, and Lincoln also said that if he could've saved the Union without freeing a single slave, he would've done so.

Humans have mostly long known basic right and wrong, but have not always chosen to act on this knowledge. There is no excusing the failure to act. "Different norms" in another era is not a satisfactory excuse because those so-called norms were never universally accepted.

What do you think progressives are accepting as a norm today that may be judged as never having been a norm, 100 years from now?

@SW-User Throwing money at problems like health care, tuition to continue being lazy about actually solving the problem.

Why do you think segmenting the population into convenient labels: progressives, environmentalists, etc. is helpful? Abolitionists certainly spoke out against slavery in the USA, the ANC movement spoke out against apartheid in South Africa, and colonists spoke out about atrocities committed by the British Empire but they all belonged to their respective generations responsible for behaviour that is not acceptable by modern day standards, but was rationalized in their day.

If you want to judge prior generations for their 21st century attributable transgressions; then prepare to be similarly judged when the "next crew" takes over. Your labels won't mean sh*t.

We should approach them as you do a child who doesn't know better.
