Is youtube trying to force spam scripts around ad/script block extensions?
Every 5 to 10 youtube vids I watch there's this image super-imposed on the video for about the first 10 seconds or so. I finally managed to capture it...
I haven't dared tried to click on it anywhere, but I was able to grab it using FastCapture when it showed up just now on the beginning of a video.
Does anyone know what it actually is and why it seems to appear with no warning like it's an ominous sign of big-tech trying to workaround my workarounds?
Common Causes & Fixes Targeted Ad Overlay: The Control GX product is heavily advertised online. You are likely seeing these ads displayed at the bottom or over your video screen. Fix: Click the 'X' on the top corner of the overlay to dismiss it. If you want to stop personalized ads from appearing, you can adjust your preferences via the Google Ad Settings page.
GroundTruth Corrupted Video Thumbnail: YouTube is sometimes unable to load the correct video preview, falling back to a cached default or generic gray placeholder image. Fix: Refresh your page or clear your browser’s cache to force YouTube to reload the correct visual data.
University at Buffalo +1 Browser Glitch or Dark-Mode Conflicts: Browsers with built-in dark mode (like Opera GX) often try to force "dark pages" over web content, which can distort or overlay images incorrectly. Fix: Right-click inside the YouTube page and click Disable Force Dark Page to see if the gray image disappears.
