what's the best response to someone insinuating something that's not true online

i get this sometimes on youtube, maybe because i'm popular there, so there's some who want to discredit me to prevent me gaining a following or popularity, ....... also i take myself seriously too, so can quickly get worked up about it.....and just the complication of knowing; when to respond & when to ignore?....but if that person is insinuating things to me which aren't true, or mentioning things to me things which aren't relevant to me or my post, or insinuate that what i said in my post isn't true, that other things are true instead with intent to cast doubt on my character...then what do you do?

because like i said earlier in my previous post and here now, i take it seriously & have no tolerance of it....but, like i said, it's when to respond and when to ignore??

Always best to ignore I think, unless you can graciously respond in a way that doesn't backfire. Defending yourself online is difficult, people can't see facial expressions and it's easy to come across in a negative way, and that could do more damage to others perception of you. I think if you do try to respond, be very measured and keep what you say short, polite and factual.
