Thank you for pointing this out. I couldn’t agree more. The thumbnails to most of these videos are over the top and misleading. In some cases they are better than the vids themselves

You are NOT kidding. What I do is click, "Do not recommend this channel".
OH my favorite ones say things like "If you say this one word, it will have this huge effect" (just as a hypothetical title) but then the video is over an hour long? Couldn't the video be like only two minutes?
H3LL the video most likely never even reveals that magic word. "Do not recommend this channel".
But the reason those thumbnails work - it appeals to uneducated people.

Well the main audience for trending YouTube videos is kids, so the colorfulness really draws them in, and the facial expressions likely evoke different emotions in their developing minds.
