John Cleese, racist?

John Cleese recently twited the following:

'Some years ago I opined that London was not really an English city any more

Since then, virtually all my friends from abroad have confirmed my observation

So there must be some truth in it...

I note also that London was the UK city that voted most strongly to remain in the EU'

Is this tweet a statement of fact, or the opinion of a racist as the msm and other famous comedians such as Dom Joly have stated?

If it is racist, why is it racist?

The truth according to the last census, is that London is now a city where white English are the minority and are becoming increasingly a minority.
Not that that is a bad thing, but it is a fact.

One of the reasons I cannot stand twatter...it's a cesspool of arguments and hate.

It was a factual comment...I grew up in London , but would not live there if they were giving houses away...most of it is has gone downhill and not safe to walk the streets...

@Harriet03 I was living in London before you were born or bred..lol..when it was a great place to live...we could leave our front doors open and all the neighbor's stood outside talking to each other without a translator...walk into any shop and they knew your name...living it was the only way to know how great it was.....but I still like you...

@Harriet03 I think he is talking of pre-war i.e Britain before the 1960's. I've heard my friends parent's mention this numerous times when growing up about how no-one locked their doors, your local shop keeper cared to know your name, and there was little to zero crime.

Now the Kray's were criminal gangsters and another thing entirely, and from a different era to pre-war Britain.

@D1senfranchised Mum & grandparents say the same. But big cities are the same, always evolving/ changing. He should read londons history!!

@Platinum but immigration has nothing to do with that. Take NYC, two of the safest neighbourhoods are Bay Ridge and Sheepshead Bay. Both are predominantly immigrant areas, Palestinian Arab and Russian respectively.

@Harriet03 I lived within 20 mins of the Krays and they never affected my life or anyone else I knew ...you watched too many films...

@D1senfranchised pre war Briton before the 60s....you are funny...you need to read a few books....you two would make a great double act...
Platinum · M
@basilfawlty89 I never mentioned immigration in that context...I'm talking what it was like and what it's like now....someone gets knifed every day now...that never happened...
