I always get those weird messages on WhatsApp. I'm also placed on groups I don't even know about. I just delete the messages and the groups I was placed in. I hardly if ever go on WhatsApp.

Your number may have been exposed to scammers, through a wahatsapp group you belong to, and they wiggled their way into.

I do not accept any calls, unless it's from a close friend or relative.
For unknown but seemingly normal phone numbers, I send a message "who are you?"!

They usually adapt to the recipient's time zone, so midnight calls are unusual. But scams in general are very common indeed.

WhatsApp can track all your activities to earn money but they can’t track and stop scammers. May be WhatsApp is making money from them too that’s why they don’t want to stop them.

You can block calls from anybody not on your contacts list

There are lot of scams going on these days. Never answer any call from anyone you don't know.

Yes it is very possible. These scam artists use any means to communicate with their victims. That's one of the reasons I don't use any social media besides SW
