WhatsApp sharing data with Facebook...

... what about people who already have Facebook, Facebook messenger or Instagram on their phone? Does the change in WhatsApp bother you at all?

Update: having looked closer to policy changes, apparently they've had to allow access to location details (possibly via Facebook services) only for registered business accounts to which you have voluntarily agreed contact via the app, to allow businesses to use the app more than before. They will not routinely be sending details such as phone numbers and location to Facebook otherwise, so they say.

Tbh my data is out there anyway so idc but Signal is the safest app

@SW-User I know a lot of people use Facebook (which I don't) but location data from phone, for example, carries quite a lot extra, I think, because now people are probably on their phone more than on their computer. Google also tracks location info on Android phones, far as I know even if location is switched off for apps, apparently :(

@PhilDeep Your internet provider/phone carrier also tracks you but it doesn’t mean you’ll stop using your phone so it’s kinda pointless

@SW-User Depends who gets it. Google apparently definitely does if using Android. Facebook I've kept away from, so I don't want their paws on it as well now.

Where you are when you make a what’s app call or message, who you call, where they are, how long the call is. All part of constructing your entire life.
PhilDeep · 51-55, M
@meJess I've been planning to ditch for some time and have hardly used it for about a year now.

@PhilDeep signal or Telegram cannot process that information and even iMessage is less intrusive.
PhilDeep · 51-55, M
@meJess Telegram's my preferred alternative, for sure.

I don't like Suckerburg..its just silly. There's other chatting apps I can use alas
Gangstress · 41-45, F
@PhilDeep exactly what I'll be doing too
PhilDeep · 51-55, M
@Gangstress They're changing their policy from tomorrow, so a good time to consider backing out. Apparently they'll make it harder and harder to use the app if you don't agree.
Gangstress · 41-45, F
@PhilDeep nice one for the heads up, I've got most people to get on the other app luckily x

Nah. I mean, I have a messenger account too. And who can really stop their data from being taken by Google these days? I'm not losing sleep over it.
PhilDeep · 51-55, M
@deadgerbil Yup, if you're on Android, Google has it. I've not used Facebook and don't want them having it too.
