In less than two hours' time, my Twitter suspension will be over. How should I express my freedom of speech when that time comes?

justanothername · 51-55, M
Depends why they banned you.

Americans have an interesting interpretation of “freedom of speech”.

Freedom of speech was designed so that you could speak out against whet you thought were the wrong doings of a government without fear of life threatening reprisals aka what is happening in Iran right now.
How ever some Americans seem to think that “freedom of speech” means you have the right to insult other people by their race, creed or beliefs without repercussions. News flash. That is not freedom of speech. THAT is hate speech. Hate speech has repercussions.

@justanothername Apparently English is not your first language

Oh mr Blackthorne, i hope you use your time wisely. I surmise it will be limited. 🙂

I quit twitter after too many time outs. Chuck Todd and David Brooks really do hate being called out on their BS.

That Carlson dude blocked me and my week was made!

You got suspended from Twitter? I thin musk was letting everyone post.
@originnone Everyone who leans farther to the right than Mussolini, it seems.
@originnone Musk said "Comedy is legal" but ...

Musk: comedy is legal impersonation will be suspended

Even clearly marked parody gets suspended

Speak your truth but in words and tone that are non-violent towards others.
@bijouxbroussard Hate to sound so stupid, but which phrase is an idiom not meant to be taken literally, "freedom of speech" or "speak your truth"?

If it's "freedom of speech" I agree. I don't know of any culture which doesn't have taboos on what is okay to say.
If it's "speak your truth", that also needs to be modified by what is appropriate to a situation, mindful of not using speech to hurt or harm.

There is no right to freedom without responsibility for consequences.
@hartfire The idiom was about "heads exploding", which is comparable to one’s "mind" being "blown". Not meant to be taken literally. And for the people on Twitter to claim that it was "inciting violence", was rather disingenuous, considering the right wingers they now support.
@bijouxbroussard I see what you mean!
Yes - disingenuous - or worse, machiavellian - a way to shut people down for harmless forms of speech.
The Twitter is weird - once I knew what it was I chose to avoid it.

@MaBalzEsHari I am not suspended here. I am suspended on Twitter. I received a seven-day suspension for glorifying violence.

In context, this is a transcript of what happened.

@JoJoFromJerz: What would happen if you told a Trump supporter and Tucker Carlson fan that Carlson hates Trump with a passion?
Myself: One hopes their head would explode.

Somehow, this was taken as a serious advocation of violence.
