Have any of you heard of the new term RCTA?

RCTA refers to the idea that a person originally of one racial or ethnic background identifies as (or claims to transition into) a different race.

On platforms like TikTok it has appeared as people posting as though they are “changing” to a race they feel aligned with (often East Asian cultures) using language like “#RCTA” or “#racechangetoanother”.

A related term is ECTA (“Ethnicity Change To Another”) which emphasises ethnicity rather than race (for example a person of one East Asian ethnicity claiming another).

Some say it’s a legitimate identity shift and some say it’s a form of delusional or magical thinking (the idea of manifesting a new DNA or background)
