TikTok Should Be Banned

‘I feel like someone encouraged her’: Girl, 12, found dead at her Argentina home after practicing viral TikTok 'blackout challenge' – aunt says she was found hanging by a rope and friends watched her kill herself on livestream

Milagros Soto died at her home in Santa Fe, Argentina, on Friday after doing the viral TikTok 'blackout challenge'
The 12-year-old girl is said to have received a link from a classmate before participating in the dare
Soto placed a rope around her neck while she held her breath and twice tried to remove it and failed
She tried a third time and was unable to get the rope off before she died
The child's death was caused by 'mechanical asphyxia by hanging' and 'there are no signs of abuse or third party intervention'

It's unfortunate she tried this and died as a result. But because the link she followed came from TikTok, doesn't mean TikTok should be banned. That's like saying screwdrivers should be banned because someone decided to poke himself in the eye with it, and blinded himself.

People just need to practice common sense.

PhoenixFAIL - Yes, it kinda does. These TikTok challenges count on the easy use of pier pressure to get kids to do dangerous things. Knowingly endangering our kids is grounds for banishment. An attitude like yours puts YOU on thin ice!
@Budwick Well, I'm sorry you feel that way about me. Peer pressure comes from many places, and is something that will always exist. It's especially prevalent in the young who are trying to build an identity that will lead to acceptance, even if what's acceptable is something negative. If you tried to ban every source that could be a contributor to peer pressure, you'd never run out of things to ban.

Instead of junking a car just because it backfires once in a while, why not educate people about the dangers of posting things that could be harmful, and, on the other side, encourage youth to engage in safer and more life-enhancing activities? TikTok admin could also filter out those posts it thinks might induce harm. But, you can't protect people from the dangers of this world forever and in every way.

People need to be taught to think for themselves. We don't have an educational system which encourages critical thinking.

That is true - we can see it among the WOKE every day. And even though we normally think of WOKE Folk as adults that should know better - they fall in line so they won't be canceled.

Wow - perfect analogy to a 12 year old hanging herself.

Granted, we would like to think our kids are smart enough to not do such things. But every time we do - some kid proves us wrong. That's why we consider them kids until they hit 21 when hopefully they've become adults.

@PhoenixPhail I fully agree with you. It's like blaming alcohol for bad behavior. Guess something must be blamed in the absence of intelligence

The CCP doesn't agree with either of you.
They know perfectly well what they are doing with TikTok.

@TESSA111 I don't think the girl was stupid.
