Different language?

Sometimes when reading posts, I wonder if people are speaking a different language as I don't understand what the person is saying/asking. Anyone else?
It could be me, I'm old!

English may not be their first language. Google translate is also very limited.

@KiwiBird google translate CAN help, but more of a clarification tool than a translator because one still has to know what they are looking at.

Otherwise they might just cut and paste some ambiguous or nonsensical statement.

@Punches You use it on something like Te Reo Māori and you get gobbledygook....next to useless.

I experimented with google translate.
I asked it to translate something I had written in English (my second language) into French, my first. The result was amusing but understandable. Mostly it translated literally, therefore the meaning of some expressions or colloquialisms did not survive the translation of individual words.
However, it is better at translating a webpage or e-mail.
