First impressions of the SimilarWorld forum

The forum is very large and has its threads related to the forum itself give to me personally a spread-out feeling. It makes for an interesting place to look around, yet it does for a new person like myself make it a bit tricky to figure out. An observation I would like to place is that the FAQ does offer information on how to create groups, but I find it tricky to find an overfiew of groups or how to join one. For the veteran poster it may be very clear stuff but I think it could enhance the forum navigation. Also, if this information is already part of the website, I would love to learn where it is located so I can better familiarize myself with it!

Hello. Thank you for your feedback.

Due to the amount of Groups/Forums we have, it would be hard to show all the groups in just 1 page.

However, this should be a good start for exploring the Groups/Forums: https://similarworlds.com/topics

Welcome to SW!

Dive in and thrash around works well too 😜

The trick is to add some posts and respond to someone else's. Don't worry too much about which group, I almost never go to a group to look for posts, I just scan the feed to see if anything catches my eye.

This is how I understand it (admin, correct me if I am wrong):

Groups are organized in Forums (Themes): each Forum is formed from multiple groups, and each group has multiple posts.

If you click "Forums", it can help you find posts on different themes and each post shows the group it is posted-in.

You can also type a random word in SimilarWorld's search box and let it lead you to the groups/forums that have that word/interest in order to contribute to an existing Forum/Group.

When you write a post, you can choose to tag it to an existing forum and/or group, or to make your own group within a Forum (if it does not already exist).

To avoid doubles, SimilarWorld tends to merge groups with similar titles into one main group under a specific forum.

Hope that helps :)

@Busybee333 Appreciate the explanation! I also find it interesting to read your additional mention about general group merging practices here, it offers some way to me to look at it from another angle. Do you mean 'posts' being equal to 'threads', in terminology usage at SimilarWorlds?

Welcome to SW! 🙌🤪🫠🫣🤔🫥🤥🙄😬🥳🥳🥸

If I remember correctly you can't create a new group until you've been here for a certain amount of time. Maybe mods can correct me on this.

Good luck! It often seems like an impenetrable maze to me.
Ukiyo · 26-30
@novaguy2u Thanks! Glad to know I am not the only one with these experiences! Has your maze feeling turned into a less maze like feeling over time or would you say that your experiences of the forum, in terms of findability, have remained somewhat simlar?
novaguy2u · 70-79, M
@Ukiyo No, it's still a maze, sometimes more like a bramble patch. It doesn't help that I'm in New Zealand, so there is a massive time lag between making a comment and getting a response, and of course by the time I find the response the next day the sender has gone to bed.
[c=800055]Welcome to dense forest of SW , happy hunting . [/c]
