An alternative to VIP

I've considered getting VIP but in fact i am not interested in the extra abilities, they seem mostly either unnecessary or divisive.

The alternative I have in mind, suggested by @DeWayfarer, is to provide a means for us to donate to SW to help defray the running costs.
I get VIP to contribute to the SW expenses. When you figure the average movie ticket price is $10 for two hours' entertainment, it's a heckuva deal.

That's literally the reason I bought VIP. Just to give back to a site I've been using for awhile. The features are meh at best. I don't care who is visiting my profile, i don't care if my messages were seen. The heart is nice though. The ability to create more groups is ok but I can't think of any more groups to create. The groups feature needs more work in my opinion.

It might be a business strategy. If they keep the current model they can use advantages and benefits as a business, if they switch to donations they may have to register as a 501C non-profit, and lose certain benefits allowed to businesses that are not allowed to non-profits. 🤷‍♂️

Purchasing VIP is a donation toward the costs of running the site. The benefits you receive are analogous to the bumper sticker you receive when you donate to a charity.

Your decision whether to donate or not is probably not based on how cool the bumper sticker is.

I think the extra abilities as VIP are really just an indicator about how this site is run in the first place. There are many issues here, and I would consider regular VIP if things improved in so many ways.

Is it a benefit
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@Havesomefun2 SW has been good for me. I've met some good people here and I feel very comfortable using this site. It is the only social media site that has 'clicked' for me. So I feel like contributing a little to express my gratitude.

@ninalanyon it’s good to find something that works
Havesomefun2 · 56-60, M
@Havesomefun2 @ninalanyon I totally agree making friends is a wonderful thing to be able to get them out of their comfort zone and try new things

Interesting
That’s the reason I started with VIP, I always want to contribute when I use a site a lot. I like some of the benefits but I’m guessing it’s possible to not use them if they’re not needed. I don’t have a lot of photo albums and I often forget to check who visited my profile.

Just use private message if vip one can see who looks
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
Well, but I like to see who has left what emoji on comments that I've written. Also, it shouldn't be private when somebody downvotes you.
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@LordShadowfire You don't need VIP to see who reacted to your comments.
Lilnonames · F
Or have vip where u can pick and choose your options with different prices
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@Lilnonames But I have no interest in any of the existing options! SW as it is for me already suits me very well.
Lilnonames · F
@Lilnonames buy coins that will contribute, buy others vip
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@Lilnonames Ah, hadn't thought of that. I'm not interested in the coins either but that does sound like a possible compromise. I'll look into it. Thanks,

Nina xx
