What’s with the limiting of private messages?

This post has received a Note or Correction by the SimilarWorlds staff.
Staff Feedback:
There has always been a limit on the number of Private Messages a user can initiate within certain timeframes.
This is a necessary feature on pretty much any social network or communication enabled service.
It helps to reduce spam, harassment, and other unwanted behaviors from those who may abuse the private messaging feature.

Account Reputation, Account Age and other metrics (now also, VIP status), factor into the calculation of a user's active messaging quota.

The majority of users (95-99%) may never experiience such limitations.
It should only affect those who start New PM conversations at a higher than normal rate.
Since when did that start and how long do u need to wait?

Initiating New Private Message conversations with over 70+ different users you have never conversed with before, in under 1 month, is a fairly high amount of conversations to be starting.

We suggest that you try seeking more genuine, long-term communication peers, by looking for users who share matching interests / forums with you, also reading their profile well, before initiating contact.

These limitations are temporary, and its duration varies depending on how many messages the user has sent over the past day / week / month.
I just got it again!!!! I can no longer send messages....this has NEVER happened before. I refuse to be lured to pay for a membership. You definitely just added this not long ago. Why? Not enough advertising revenue that you have to have long-time subscribers to pay for the loss? That's what it is.....

@caesar7 I still have it I bet some members are already leaving because of this
caesar7 · 61-69, M
@JohnOinger I will eventually. I just want to give it some time and hope they will retrieve it. I have been on this site since the beginning. I can't believe I am falling victim to this bs !!!! More people should voice their outrage on this matter. There are creeps that don't even have this problem, I am sure. Why do we, innocent and respectful folks fall into that category...it goes beyond my understanding. It's a money thing..period.😡

@caesar7 How often do you send PM's to people you have not previously done so to before?

Most forums restrict PM's only for new people, like you have to be there for so long and have made so many posts before you can PM or do certain other things.
caesar7 · 61-69, M
@Punches Exactly! To meet people for the first time!!!I never had trouble before!! Never. Now, you can't introduce yourself and discuss a variety of things you have in common!! Sure, there are pricks and creeps but some of us are respectful and want to welcome them and chat!! WTF is wrong with that!!!! Only the woke people have that right now?
Punches · 46-50, F
@caesar7 I imagine there is some rhyme or reason but my PM's are minimal except for those who I have been in contat with for a bit.
caesar7 · 61-69, M
@Punches Maybe....for some but not for people who respect others. When someone new tells me to leave them alone. I do. Period. Stops right there.

A number of users complaining about the Messaging limits, currently have pending Reports on their Private Messages:

"Reason: Pornographic, unsolicited nudity or other sexually explicit content (1 week ago)"

-----

Users can initiate new conversations with 5.. 10.. 20.. users, in one day (if they aren't actively limited).

However, if someone is routinely creating +10 conversations with new people each and every day, for example, it suggests that the user is not creating meaningful conversations of mutual interest with the recipients.

If a user initiated 60.. 80.. 100 new conversations in the past month, with users who share mutual interests with them, they should already have plenty enough active conversations going on to keep them busy all day.

(Not to mention past conversations from the previous months, as well.)

Otherwise, a user may be simply "Volume-Messaging" playing a "Numbers Game" to see who may respond.
@caesar7 how dare you find 2.3 users per day to be interesting enough to send a message to
Punches · 46-50, F
@Pretzel 2.3 I am guessing that .3 person might be like an amputee?
@caesar7 It's ridiculous. How are you supposed to meet people if you can't DM them? And there have been plenty of times when I've sent a DM to an interesting person, and I never hear back because they never return after setting up their account.
