I think it's just that the subject of politics happens to be what they enjoy engaging in. Perhaps that's the foremost subject do they are interested in so naturally they are going to pull towards that and groups of people that share the same interest, as well. I don't see it as a particular agenda. And I also don't think any should assume there is. To each their own. I don't believe there is always a particular motive in mind nor to cause friction or argument.

I noticed quite the opposite. People minding their own business on their own post while foolish, immature trolls go out of their way, even though they're not interested in the post, to try and disrupt a post. This is so immature and I guess they don't have anything better with their time, then to act like kindergartners.

Not just SW but in all of life
Life is like a bell curve.
Single focused right on the right.
Single focused left on the left.
But the majority in the middle live and let live, get along with most, tolerate the extreme as much as possible and ignore the rest

I spend probably about 90% of my time in the news and politics section these days, but one of the reasons I do it is that the rest of SW seems really unfocused and random, with stuff I either can't relate to or get bored with.

I keep telling myself I need to focus on other stuff, and have, sometimes, like food or pets, but politics and news is like low hanging fruit for me I guess.

Yes, certain people on the internet (not just SW, but the internet and TV even) love to gather in places that either agree with their preconceived notions so they can relax and build on their preconceived notions OR fully reject them, so they can online fight about them or make fun of others.
