Why don’t people check their message requests?,why does the site have them if no one checks them?

I was about to say that I always check mine, and then I noticed a message request from several days ago by somebody who called me a motherfucker and blocked me. I've never even had interactions with that guy, he just decided he hates me enough to tell me in a PM before blocking me.
