Internet friends seem real. Have you lost contact with Internet friends?

I have. I know the person’s real name too.
A semi public figure by occupation.
We “met” on EP.
Verified, by phone and “proof of life”.
Unless it was an elaborate hoax.
I often thought it might have been a scaled down version of a movie, The Game. But it went on for years. And then, gone.

People come and go throughout our lives, online and off, and I think that’s natural. Not all friendships last.

Not possible. Someone close to her misunderstood what was going on.

Yep. A couple from the old chatrooms. Both real, as my wife and I met both, plus the spouse of one and the daughter of the other. One had ongoing familial issues, and the last time I called she pretended to be someone else and not know me so I got the message to stay away. I always suspected the other was bipolar, as she repeatedly would ghost me, and then come back as if nothing had happened. The last time she ghosted me she also disappeared from the website she moderated for an association. I still occasionally send her an email. She responded with a very short, non-informative email once.
