Acknowledge you understand where they are coming from, whether you agree with it or not, without immediately judging them. Indicate what you feel you can contribute to the discussion, without doing a total, overwhelming dump of everything you know or feel on the subject. Then have patience, particularly online, since you don't know how frequently they come on, what time zone there are in.
