Poorly spelt memes are not posted by online experts, they are posted by trolls.

@HairbrushDiva Ah you're from the UK. I too learned to spell spelled, spelt. Nowadays & hereabouts spelt is something my faddist grandkids buy at the 'health food' store.

@Really Yes, I am English. How did you guess?
Really · 80-89, M
@HairbrushDiva I thought I already explained why I knew you're British (which doesn't equate to 'English'). But really I was just having fun with transatlantic spelling differences.
HairbrushDiva · 31-35, F
@Really I am English, I am from Manchester. What transatlantic differences are you referring to? I know most of them (color/colour, center/centre, etc).

@HairbrushDiva
I too learned to spell spelled, spelt
In N. America - which does not mean USA any more than British means English :) - the past tense of 'spell' is written as 'spelled', not 'spelt'. Hence I assumed you are British because you spelled it 'spelt'. That's how I leaned to spell it, in Britain.

Spelt is also the name of a grain currently popular here with 'health food' enthusiasts.

@Really I know one or two health food enthusiasts but I've never heard them talking about "spelt" in that context. I don't think I've heard of that before. We were taught in school that "spelt" is the past tense of "spell", although we can say "spelled" if we like, it is acceptable but less common.
@HairbrushDiva @Really Spelt is a so-called ancient grain. Others are amaranth, kamut, farro, quinoa. Fancier cereals from "whole" foods purveyors often feature these grains.
HairbrushDiva · 31-35, F
@LamontCranston I've heard of amaranth, bit most of those others I can't say I have.
@HairbrushDiva Quinoa is often seen as a rice substitute or supplement. But look for a organic ceral blend that may include them.
HairbrushDiva · 31-35, F
@LamontCranston I'm not really bothered about all this health food. If other people want it, let them have it.
@HairbrushDiva Just letting you know what is "out there".
