Remember the AOL chat rooms?

I met so many people through AOL back in 1990’s-00’s then it just died. Anyplace you go to now is filled with bots, porn, sext DMs and pervs. Are there any REAL chat rooms like AOL anymore? I miss those days of the internet.

yeah....and prodigy before that.

@originnone You had to buy the software, then you needed a paid subscription to even use Prodigy. I just went with AOL dial up because if you were logged in on AOL, you could minimize AOL, and then get on the internet with Internet Explorer.

@twiigss I wasn't really that knowledgable back then, but wasn't it all so cool?

@originnone It sure was. It's a shame all the glitter is gone. Growing up, it was great having the PC come out and literally as you are growing up, the PC technology just kept getting better and better. And now, it's like welp, we mastered that, so it's not really fun anymore. Sure you get a computer and do stuff on it, but like now that we've hit this technological breakthrough, all the fun is gone :(

The desktop computer I am using right now, I built myself. Cost about $715 to build. But looking back on it, it was a fun experience but that's enough fun for me. My next PC will probably just be a pre-built PC.

@twiigss I have a mad book air which I bought because I didn't have time to outsmart a PC. When I was at Purdue in the early '80s, I had friends who were building their own computers....which did nothing..... My freshman year, we were still using punch cards! LOL

@originnone Lol. I took a computer class in 10th grade and unfortunately we ended up learning COBOL. Of all programming languages to learn, it was COBOL. Wasn't really that great of a class. But I did enjoy the typing class I took. That helped me learn how to type.

@twiigss We learned Basic plus and then fortran. I later learned C++ on my own.

@originnone I had a friend who went to devry college and he learned as400 and c++. I tried to learn from him but it just wasn't working. I do better in a class.

@twiigss I do too. I started a masters program in computer science and dropped out pretty quickly. I just wasn't all that interested.
