Why are so many people online but nobody replies to posts or expresses something?

If they're anything like me, they're probably just lurking in order to get caught up on the latest with their favorite users without getting sucked into the hubbub and wasting time. Not everyone has the time to commit hours of their lives to meaningless expression.
