It's cooler today only 25 C. Here in Cheltenham there is also a pleasantly cool northwesterly breeze. Just a few scraps of cirrus in the sky, perfect weather for walking.
Walked into the centre from the Gloucester University flat taking the long way round via The Bath Road where I visited a few of the charity shops and bought a copy of Anthony Horowitz ' Magpie Murders.
Then past Cheltenham College and turned left towards Montpellier, through the Gardens to the Pavilion where the local art society holds exhibitions.
From there down to Imperial Gardens and the town centre. Checked that the nice doughnut café (name escapes me) is still there to visit on another day.
Then I connected to the shopping centre WiFi to see if there was a micro pub nearby. Found a local newspaper article about the Angry Parrot reopening. It was dated five years ago so I wasn't hopeful but more walking is good so I headed for St James Square. As expected it no longer exists. It has transformed into the Sober Parrot café, which is closed, probably permanently.
Next was a visit to the Wilson Gallery to see the Seeing Things exhibition (not quite the right title, I'll figure it out later). Had a nice chat with one of the attendants about how the paintings were displayed. Complained that putting a Dutch painting four metres up the wall is a bit pointless because appreciating the incredibly fine brushwork is surely part of the point of an exhibition contrasting seventeenth and eighteenth century Dutch paintings with twentieth century British paintings.
Then I repaired to Upstairs at The Cheeseworks where I ordered a Full Works toastie and a pot of tea. But there was a mix up between waitress and kitchen and what I got was garlic and mushroom. The waitress offered to take it back and get the right one made but as I haven't tried the garlic and mushroom I accepted it. It's good but I think I prefer the one I ordered.
It's 77.90 NOK at home and 7.50 GBP here. At current exchange rates 7.50 GBP = 95.82 NOK. So it's not only cheaper in Norway in PPP terms (because income is higher) but it's cheaper in absolute terms too
This picture and the description are interesting. I wonder what the artist's, and his customer's, attitude to casual sexual harassment were, the serving wench doesn't look as though she is enjoying being groped.
