Slept badly last night. Partly that's just how it is whenever I move from place to place. But also I think I might have been unconsciously bothered about the meet I was supposed to have at 12:00 today. Not the meet itself but the idea that I and the guy I was to meet might encounter the housekeeper on the way to my room. As the housekeeper and I are already on first name terms, her room is right next to mine, and she is a very chatty person meeting her seems almost inevitable.
How does one overcome this shyness? After all a time honoured function of hotels is to provide for Mr and Mrs Smith to have some time together away from their respective spouses so why does it bother me so? In fact it bothers me somewhat less than it bothers some of the men I meet. Even when meeting at a Days Inn or Travelodge some men try so hard to slink past reception inconspicuously as I lead them to my room that it must be obvious from a mile away what they are up to.
Anyway I needn't have worried because at 08:05 just as I was considering getting up my mobile pinged as Fabguys notified me of a message. It was from Alana in Newburgh apologizing and saying that she wouldn't be able to make it having slept so badly because of the heat. This is a transparent excuse, I can't believe it was much warmer in Newburgh than in Buckhaven overnight and it was not exactly tropical here, the daytime temperature only reached 21 C.
So I pottered around until it was nearly 10:00 and went out to walk to Leven. When I got back about half an hour ago I ran into the housekeeper, her friend's young daughter, the hotel handyman, and the cat, The housekeeper asked if it was me who had dropped a pair of knickers (a black M&S thong as it happens) outside her door and went on to ask if there was something wrong with the lock on my room door. She then asked the handyman to take a look.
So perhaps it wa for the best that Alana got cold feet,
