Only just got connected to working WiFi. Here are some notes I made while coffee and a scone.

13:45

In the Burrell Restaurant having a pleasant mocha and a cheese scone. The mocha alone was 4.70 GBP, total nearly 9.00 GBP. Compare that to the cream tea at H&F in Ulverston which is 5.80 GBP for a much better scone (including ones with cranberry and white chocolate) and a pot of tea big enough for two cups.

Still the café is comfortable and very light. A little noisy because it is all glass, but quite bearable. Despite it being very sunny and sitting in direct sunshine the temperature is very pleasant because of discreet air conditioning and double glazing.

It was a bit of a trek to get here because the Queen Margaret Residences are on the opposite side of the Clyde over 12 000 steps away. I took a few small detours on the way so it might be a little shorter on the way back.

The Burrell Collection is a bit overwhelming. I took a lot of pictures and spent a lot of time in open mouthed astonishment.

Perhaps I am just more emotional than others but I found myself on the verge of tears at the beauty in front of me. It's not just that there are so many beautiful objects on display but the way they are displayed is a serious work of art in it's own right.

Extensive use is made of touch sensitive video screens but unlike many museums this done in such a way that it feels like a natural part of the exhibition rather than a separate explanatory addition.

The only reason I went there is that when I had lunch with Sheila and Dennis in Ulverston Sheila recommended it. Had she not done that it's quite possible that I would not have bothered walking so far. I must remember to email her and thank her.

Not a direct compliment but perhaps all the more welcome for it. As I was walking away from the Partick Govan bridge in the direction of Govan, just passing the memorial to John Aitken M.D., a tall man, of perhaps my own age, walking in the other direction said "Excuse me miss but if I keep going in this direction would I be heading for Partick?". I told him yes, definitely, I've just come from Partick myself. Then he very diplomatically pointed out that yet again I had lipstick on my teeth. I groaned and thanked him and we went our respective ways.

It was not only a pleasure to be addressed as miss but also delightful to to be addressed in an accent at the same time cultured, clear, and Scottish. He was clearly not Glaswegian but my ear for Scots accents is poorly developed so I have no idea from where he might have come.

Not far from home now so I've stopped at the Ubiquitous Chip pub for a pint of Chip Pale Ale and a packet of crisps.

As I've mentioned before many museum buildings are themselves worthy of admiration in addition to the art and history inside. So here are some pictures of the Burrell

Here's a modern example of how video can be used in a display of paintings

This triggered the "Does this contain nudity." question. I answered no because it seems to me that asking such a question about statues of this kind is at best nonsensical and carries an implied negative value judgement.
