At Ulverston station waiting for the 09:02 to Barrow where I'll change trains for Ravenglass.

Sitting on a bench on the platform where I managed to put on my wig after a bit of a struggle

A few minutes later a man sat next to me and asked if I were a transvestite. I'm not sure if I've ever been asked that quite so bluntly before and I had to take a moment to think. Eventually I answered "I'm socially transgender.". I made that up on the spot. He asked what that meant so I said "Transgender without any surgery."

At first I thought well he's a bit forward, impertinent even. But it is interactions like this that bring things into sharper focus and make me consider how I define myself.

On the train back to Ulverston.

While I was drinking my beer at the Pennington Hotel one of the staff came to clear away the plate that had held a slice of chocolate cake.

She asked if I had liked it. Then she related about how she is diabetic and can't eat such things.

Am I looking especially approachable and sympathetic today?

She told me how her brother died at the beginning of the year and that she had started comfort eating and eventually caused a diabetic crisis. Apparently confirmed by a blood test as being close to fatal.

I said that grief takes people different ways, for me it was not eating rather than overeating.

She went on to say that the crisis had made her think again about eating and that her brother had he been alive would probably have given her a slap.

Then she said she had gone down a dress size in the last six weeks and also two sizes in knickers. So I said that perhaps the crisis had a good side in that it had made it very clear that losing weight and controlling diet was worth doing.

I went on to say that she should throw out the big knickers. She agreed and said she already had given a bin bag of clothes to her niece.

@ninalanyon And did you knickers size just in case they'd fit?
ninalanyon · 70-79, TVIP
@22Michelle I'm absolutely sure they would not fit. Even in her slimmed down state she'd make two of me!

Train to Barrow arrived on time at 09:02.

Here's a selfie showing a rare event, me in my wig

@MonicaG I have a black one but it's slightly too small and gives me a headache if I wear it for more than twenty minutes.

But actually I hardly ever wear either one. I usually wear a hat instead. I have thought of treating wigs like hats but I think I'd need to spend a lot more on the wigs and also on getting them professionally styled. But I'm to frugal to spend the money. I wore it today because the gurl I was going to meet said she had seen pictures of me with it on and asked me to wear it today.

@ninalanyon

This is the one that I wear the most

In Pennington Hotel bar having a pint of Wainwright Amber. It seems to be the only place open today.

Any self realization moment can have benefits, but yeah, that's a bit blunt, even rude.
ninalanyon · 70-79, TVIP
@Ontheroad Yes, I was a bit surprised.

@ninalanyon people never cease to amaze me - curiosity is one thing but pointless rude is a whole other thing.
