Finally made it out of my hotel room at about 10:15. Been for a gentle stroll around Ulverston and now I'm in my favourite Ulverston café. It's a slightly curious place, on the ground floor of the H & F financial services company.
@Shyguy1992 Ulverston Pride is on Saturday. In fact that's why I'm here. I cam here last year and just by accident arrived two days before Pride. I was very confused when the hotel receptionist said "Are you here for the event on Saturday?". I had no idea what she was talking about, I was visiting just because I'd spent a day in the town the year before and liked it so much.
@OlderSometimesWiser I'm afraid so. I seem to have got something tiny embedded in the ball of my right foot. Usually if I get a splinter or similar and can't just pull it out immediately it just works its way out over a few days or at most a couple of weeks. But this happened almost a month ago and yesterday it started to feel more annoying. So this morning I tried to dig it out with a needle but I wasn't successful. So I rubbed some antiseptic cream in and put on a plaster. But plasters don't last long on the soles of my feet if go barefoot, hence the Primark flats.
@ninalanyon Oooh, hope it gets better soon. Gotta be especially annoying with all the walking you do. So wouldn’t regularly wearing something like a light sandal be easier? With all the charity shops you frequent, you could probably find a pair for 50 cents! 😅
@OlderSometimesWiser Finding shoes is pretty easy. Finding shoes that are both comfortable and robust enough to walk ten thousand steps over mixed urban and countryside terrain is a lot harder.
But really I just don't like wearing them. They make feet sweat, they cause unnatural gait, they squeeze toes together.
I wear them only when circumstances require them, winter in Norway for instance or occasions that call for heels. I wore heels on Sunday when I went to the Sparkle transgender festival.
I'll wear a different pair on Saturday because it's Ulverston Pride that day because I feel I have a minor reputation to uphold, a local photographer posted lots of pictures on her Facebook pages and I was in a surprisingly large number of them!

This splinter, or whatever it is, is probably the worst thing to have happened in twenty years and I don't think it's serious, not yet at least, just annoying.
