Went out for a walk this afternoon, visited the nearest Sue Ryder charity shop. One of the volunteers there shouted across to he colleague: "I love the scarf this lady's wearing!" and went on to tell me it was beautiful

Here's what she was referring to:

The way back to my room is mostly along Stafford Road which is an urban dual carriageway. Anyway I noticed a shiny something on the ground and picked it up. It was a small metal disk about 17 mm in diameter and about 1.5 mm thick (I measured it with an IKEA paper tape measure when I got back to my room). Being a bit of a magpie I dropped it in my handbag. Then a few metres further on I spotted another. And for the next five or six hundred metres I kept seeing them in various sizes and shapes but all clearly related. Sometimes singly, sometimes not for fifty metres or so, and sometimes half a dozen in a square metre. I didn't pick up all those I saw and I'm sure I didn't see all of them so they are pretty common there.

So what are they?

Here's one as I found it on the pavement.
