Sitting in my favourite café, Skaperverket in Tønsberg, having my usual raspberry cheesecake and chili mocca.

It's a very pleasant day, lots of sun, no wind, warm enough to wear a light jacket and not need a jumper under it.

Posted a parcel, got the propane canister refilled, visited three charity shops and didn't buy anything!

In the NMS charity shop I had a brief chat with a woman who had hung her jacket on the end of the rail I was looking at. She asked how long I'd been wearing women's clothes. I think that's the first time I've been asked that by someone in a casual conversation. She didn't express any opinion on the matter, she just seemed genuinely curious. She also pointed out that I had lipstick on my teeth. So embarrassing, I thought I had learnt to be more careful.

Then on the way out I passed one of the old ladies who work the till and she said I looked elegant. She has complimented me before. She has also expressed concern that I was a little underdressed for the weather once in the winter. It was well below freezing and I wasn't wearing a coat but it was less than fifty metres from the shop to my car so I was in no danger.

Just skimmed The Guardian and found this

To Dalradian Gold, a US-owned mining company that wants to extract the mineral from these hills, the proposed development could bring hundreds of jobs, a large tax windfall for the exchequer – and quite spectacular riches for its owners.

As well as dazzlingly valuable seams of gold, these fields and bogs also sit above significant reserves of silver, copper and critical minerals including antimony and tellurium. At current prices, the known gold reserves alone at the site are worth at least £21bn.

If it is so valuable why does the state not buy the land and exploit it directly? No need to involve a foreign investment company.
