Nina's Blog - Saturday 4th April 2026

Went out for a stroll and to do some shopping. It's always the same at Easter weekend, both supermarket car parks were full of people buying more than they would on a normal Saturday because Monday is a holiday. My purchases fitted in my medium sized handbag, lots of other people had trolleys half full.

On a normal Saturday lunchtime the car parks at these two supermarkets are usually more than half empty.

Smart skirt!

Imust admit forgettig yesterday (Good Friday) is a Bank Holiday untiI I spotted the holiday-closures notices on an independent shop next-door to aTescos and not far from a Premier, both being open as usual due to beiing in chains that like all the supermarkets, don't believe in holidays!

@ninalanyon Oh, the pink skirt!

The supermarkets in the UK are supposed to close at 4pm on Sunday but have been given carte-blanche for far too long. There is no reason for them to open on Bank Holidays - they are not hospitals, broadcasters, the emergency-services or caterers. They do so merely for commerce.

Exactly! But the right wing parties here (FrP and Høyre) are agitating to get the rules changed here in Norway, have been for decades. The only winners in such a scenario are the biggest supermarkets and the owners of shopping centres. Certainly individual workers won't benefit and nor will small shops that will find it necessary to stay open longer simply to avoid losing trade.

@ArishMell The pink one looks good and is very comfortable for sitting still in but it was very irritating to walk in it because it is so narrow it restricts my stride. So I've decided it's got to go.

Today's outfit started with a long knitted pink skirt but I've changed out of that. I've listed the knitted skirt for sale because it is too narrow which makes brisk walking uncomfortable.

Here's how I was dressed at the start

And when i was out. This coat is really heavy but as it is knitted and unlined it's not really much use in the winter because the wind blows straight through and of course it does very little to keep the rain out. So I only wear it a few times a year when the weather is cool but still and dry. I really should consider selling it.

And here is the skirt I changed into. It's very light but it is lined

Here's the lining
