Nina's Blog - Wednesday 7th January 2026

Went out for a walk to the shops. It was about -9 C but with a fairly stiff northerly breeze that made it quite unpleasant on the way there because the shops are pretty much due north of my house.

Here are a couple of pictures of the fjord. They really are colour photographs despite looking almost monochrome

@InterdimensionalSideEye Not as icy as it used to be at this time of year. Thirty years ago there would have been ice floes in the fjord big enough to stand on (if you were feeling suicidal) and the snow would have been considerably deeper.
@ninalanyon that’s crazy

@InterdimensionalSideEye If you go a couple of kilometres up the fjord, that's to the left in the pictures, it's normal for the whole width to freeze. They run a tug up and down occasionally to keep the ship lane free. People walk out on the ice and drill holes in it to fish. I don't know if it will get cold enough this year.
