Came out today to post the Christmas cards and a parcel of belts and also to buy an Italian cake for Christmas in case my homemade Christstollen turns out to be no good.
Not all my attempts at making food and drink are a success. I started some alcoholic ginger beer a couple of weeks ago. Racked it off a few days ago and tried it after dinner yesterday. It was universally condemned! No. 3 son, who rather likes ginger ale, said it smelled like the kitchen recycling bin and we all agreed.
I was going to stop at the Jordbærpikene café before heading home but it seems that everyone else in the area was heading for that shopping centre and when I got to within about half a kilometre I could see the queue stretching into the distance. Gave that up and came to a café in one of the kommune's buildings run by a women's group. Cakes aren't so varied but the cake and coffee is half the price. There is also an old phone box by the front door that has been turned into a free library so I dropped off half a dozen books that have been waiting in the car for just such a moment.
