Nina's Blog - Saturday 29th November 2025

Saturday 29th November 2025, 20:30

Slept late this morning, didn't get out of the house to walk to the shops until about twelve. Decided to make meggie's plum cake [1]. But I had no plums so I had to go shopping. But there were no plums to be had in the supermarket I went to so I decided to make it with apples instead which I already have.

It was a glorious day, more like early spring than late autumn or early winter. But of course the day is quite short with the solstice only just ovr three weeks away.

Here's the outfit I wore

Funnily enough I made it with apples last weekend and my boyfriend asked for another one. It always tastes nicer the day after it's made.
I hope yours turned out nice x

@meggie I couldn't find any plums so I used Granny Smith's. It seemed to be cooked after an hour and twenty minutes but I haven't cut it yet. I had to add quite a lot of milk to get it to a dropping consistency so I'm wondering how it will turn out. We'll probably have it with a pot of spiced tea when No. 3 son turns up in an hour or so. Perhaps I should stick some icing on top too. But now it's time to make some jam tarts.

@ninalanyon i add a teaspoon of bicarbonate soda to fibal batter and when i remove cake from oven leave it to cool, about 4 hours, in tin so the cake sets. If you remove while still warm it falls to pieces. Oooh i do like a jam tart.

@meggie Yes I left it to cool in the tin, it went down very well indeed see Sunday's entry: https://similarworlds.com/social/blogs/5454813-Ninas-Blog-Sunday-30th-November-2025

When I got back from the shops I put the shopping away and had some lunch. I was rather put out when I collected the ingredients together and found that I had no milk. So I had to go out again, it had got a little chillier so I put on a nice knitted jacket that is lined with fake fur, very cosy. By then it was a little before 17:00 and completely dark so I decided to take some night time pictures

Here's some stained glass in the church, behind the altar I suppose.

The pylons that hold the high voltage (300 kV) transmission cables above the fjord are lit up at night. The western pylon is red and the eastern one green

On a whim I took a picture of part of the village shopping centre to show it lit up

And as I was walking toward the ferry terminal about a minute later i saw the Leo Spirit heading up the fjord

It's a pity I didn't get there a couple of minutes earlier because then i would have been able to take some pictures showing how narrow the sound is.

And here she is after safely passing out of the sound into the inner fjord

Then I turned toward the ferry terminal to head home.

Looking good in that winter outfit Nina. It's beginning to look like Christmas in your part of the world.

@Barefooter25 That's not really a winter outfit. It was about +6 C and brilliant sunshine, far too warm fro proper winter gear. :-)

And it's interesting what you say about Christmas because none of those pictures have any Christmas decorations! We did have the Christmas Market this afternoon in the main street though.

There wasn't a convenient place with enough light on my second shopping trip to take selfies so here it is in my living room

And here's the furry lining

And the very light jumper underneath

The ferry across the fjord is a plugin hybrid biodiesel/electric which runs mostly electric and is almost silent, all you hear is the sound of the water
