The intermittent fault on the left headlight of my car has finally become continuous so I've scheduled a visit to the Tesla workshop. Unfortunately the nearest service centre is very busy so it won't be looked at before 16th December. There was an option to book it into a different one that could have taken it today but I decided against it because it's nearly two hours away by public transport and involves two busses and a train.

And i found that the problem with my car key was that the battery was flat, or at least that changing the battery for another one seems to have fixed the problem. But this is a bit odd because I changed the battery recently and I thought that it came from the same blister pack a the one I've put in it now. It uses a CR2032 coin cell and when i checked the voltage on the one I've just taken out of the key it was 3 V, I checked the new one before I put it in and it has 3.3 V. The nominal voltage is 3 V. It's doubly odd because usually the car whines about the key fob battery being low for quite and that's why I changed it a couple of weeks ago but it didn't complain about low battery this time just that it couldn't detect the key. Very odd.

I never saw much reason for the fob. The app on my phone works just fine. It was clanky when I had an S8, but the recent phones have better bluetooth connectivity.

The lights are not hard to change out. You should be able to find parts easily and a video on YouTube, so long as your Tesla is out of warranty.

@IronHamster This is a 2015 Model S the app only works over the internet not via Bluetooth and to use it to allow one to drive the car as well as unlock it it requires you to enter your password as well as to separately unlock the car. So it's tedious to use and you risk being stranded if you drive into an area that has no mobile phone signal; not usually a problem in Norway but I often experience it in other countries, especially the UK.

As for fixing the headlight myself, I'm sure it's possible but I just don't fancy doing it especially at this time of the year out in the cold!

@ninalanyon Copy. I used to do a lot of work in sub-zero temperatures, F, although -40 C and F is the same. I have not experienced much below freezing in a few years, and that acclimation I think is impossible to reverse.

@IronHamster The coldest I have ever experienced was -30 C. It's about -7 C outside now at 01:02 and I should be asleep!
