Nina's Blog - Tuesday 23rd September 2025

I've decided that I've spent enough time wandering around Swindon. It's becoming a little like poking a hole in a tooth. Everything I see reminds me of the past but not always in ways that I enjoy.

So I'm going much further afield today as I just remembered that I haven't visited Glastonbury Tor this year.

Awww, I wish, I could come with you. A friend who lived there died recently. He made videos of Glastonbury and surroundings and was an asset of this town.
They went on a memorial walk for him last Friday. May he rest in peace.

@Rickichickie Sorry to hear that. Thank you for the video, I'll watch it later. Must get on or the sunshine will be gone by the time I get there!

I wish, I could come with you
I always wonder when people say things like that exactly how literally I should take it :-)

If you are serious about wanting to go with me and live not too far off the route from Swindon to Glastonbury via the M4 and M5 let me know and I can pick you up. I'll leave in about half an hour, first stop Leigh Delamere Services to charge my car.

Oops, silly me. Just checked your profile and it says Germany! That's a bit of a detour!

@ninalanyon yes it is. Otherwise I would've attended the memorial walk.
Enjoy your walk up the Tor 🌞

I've been up the Tor. Had a nice time soaking up the sun and the atmosphere. Had a pleasant chat with a guy who was stripped down to his knickers sunbathing and had my picture taken by a young Norwegian woman. At least I think she was Norwegian, she and her companion were conversing in what sounded like Norwegian but they were speaking so softly that I couldn't be quite sure exactly what it was. Wasn't the dialect from where I live at least.

Looking back at Glastonbury from part way up the Tor

The Tor in the distance

Another view from the hill

And the tower is getting closer

And here's one of the pictures that the Norwegian woman took with my camera

There were more people going up and down the Tor and lounging around at the top than I have ever seen before, plus one woman who walked around the top bare foot (carrying her shoes) three times clockwise and three times anticlockwise.

I had a chat with the sunbathing guy and he said that it had been much busier yesterday because of course that was the equinox and that between 18:00 and 21:00 there were between two and three hundred people there mostly dancing to the beats of bongos, didgeridoos, etc.

About a 15 minute walk from Swindon is a lovely retail centre and a steam engine museum (i think). The town is a bit boring otherwise.

@meggie I nearly went to the steam museum on Sunday. Actually walked into the lobby and the cafe but i wasn't in the mood. I'm not a fan of most retail centres so I didn't go in. Some of the pictures from Sunday are from the Rodbourne area near the old railway yards: https://similarworlds.com/social/blogs/5400542-Ninas-Blog-Sunday-21st-September-2025

Here's a picture of the museum itself

And some wheels at the entrance to the whole area

And the rather unimpressive entrance to the shopping centre

Having tea and lemon meringue in the John Lewis café at Cribb's Causeway while my car is charging.

In the café in the Assembly Rooms. Having an Americano and a slice of blueberry and banana cake. The cake is heavy and filling, feels homemade.

Today's outfit is a dress that I've had for years but never worn.

Tomorrow I'm going to return to Cheltenham for another look around the Wilson because their new exhibition is open now.
