Wondering if my trip to Looe might be a mistake. The forecast is for 14 m/s wind. That's described on yr.no as
Stiv kuling fra vest

Which Google translates as
Stiff gale from the west
Which sounds alarming.

But if I switch yr.no to English yr.no describes as
Moderate gale from west

Before the bar I wandered around Looe looking for a café. Ended up in the Courtyard.

Had a mocha and a scone. No WiFi. So I made some notes in Google Keep.

Mocha not to my taste, rather thin. I wonder if it was made with some kind of vegan milk. The scone was good and a decent size, the jam was also better than the usual tiny jar.

The Liskeard to Looe train takes a scenic route but it's hard to photograph. Much of it is temperate rain forest and the foliage hangs over the line.

Sudden thought. Yesterday in Tavistock I went to the Co-op to buy a few groceries. I wanted bread for toast and a chose the Co-op own brand super seeded. When I glanced at the ingredients list I was rather surprised at how long it was with flour improvers and preservatives.

I should check the ingredients of a typical Norwegian loaf.

One problem with rail travel is that it is often difficult to see the railway's architecture from the train. For instance there is a viaduct at Calstock but apart from a glimpse of the parapet it's invisible from the train.

Here's a view from the train as it was crossing the Tamar on the Calstock viaduct at 19:08 today.

Perhaps I'll take a walk to Calstock tomorrow and get some pictures of the viaduct. So long as it's not raining. According to open Street Map it's about an hour's walk each way.

@ninalanyon I never really thought about what we miss when riding on trains. Unless there is a large bend we miss so much of what is In front of us. We knew when we were getting to the next major city's station, because of a large curve in the tracks on approach.
While on a different bus service in another town earlier this year, I noticed screens that showed what was in front of the bus. Maybe one day, this will be on all public transport.

Today's outfit is the long M&S skirt I bought yesterday in Tavistock and a white cotton jumper with my pink coat

@ninalanyon lovely outfit and the right choice with this awful weather
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@skimpyboy Thank you! It's not ever so cold so I could have worn a shorter skirt. And of course I checked a few charity shops. Found a nice Papaya skirt on a rail marked 'Remaindered'. It was only 1.38 GBP so I couldn't resist.

@ninalanyon the skirt was a good price , need to wear a skirt while on holiday and a nice blouse

In Paignton today and very breezy and picked up the courage to wear short shorts with a thick sweatshirt and rain jacket and got a few looks
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@skimpyboy Wasn't quite as bad in Looe as the forecast suggested but it's a good job I could get under cover when it rained because it was far too windy for my collapsible umbrella!
skimpyboy · 56-60, M
@ninalanyon I was showing a full leg when my coat was open

The pub background music has just played a cover of Nights in White Satin. I don't generally find cover versions attractive but I rather liked this one by Sandra from Fading Shades - 1995

In the Ye Olde Grog and Ale bar. Having a pint of Merivale pale ale. Wanted a cider but all they had was Thatcher's and Rattler both of which are a triumph of advertising over quality and authenticity.

The scenery between Gunnislake and Calstock. A rare glimpse through the foliage

The more usual view from the train was just close up leaves :-)

On the train. Interestingly at Bere Alston it reverses out to head to Bere Ferrers.

Gunnislake station is less dismal than most and some effort has been made to make it a more interesting place to wait

On the train to Liskeard. Departure was delayed but only by four minutes.
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@ninalanyon The connection to Looe departs very soon after the arrival of the Penzance service at Liskeard but it was held back for us.

11:00. I'm on the Looe train now and it's an astonishingly old fashioned line. It's a single track and has signs telling the driver to stop and obtain a token before continuing!
