Nina's Blog - Saturday 5th July 2025

Saturday 5th July 2025, 09:08

Almost finished dressing. But pride doesn't really start until at least 10:00. So should I put my stockings on now which means wearing shoes of some kind at least or wait until later. I can't wear 90 mm heels all day

I think I'll go out to my car and fetch my flats first. Should I carry my heels with me or come back to the hotel later to get them.

The forecast is for a maximum of 17 C with about half a millimetre of rain per hour.

I can't wear my stockings and suspenders because one stocking has a gaping hole at the toe. So I'm wearing stay ups. But I couldn't find a pair that didn't have ladders in at least one of them so I'm wearing mismatched ones. One with a red cuff and one with black. If I'd known about the event I might have bought some new ones.

@22Michelle I did consider it. But I'm glad I didn't because the general tone of this event is that most people are dressed quite decorously. Even the drag artists are merely extravagantly rather than provocatively dressed.

@ninalanyon Some people just aren't fun.

@22Michelle I'm enjoying it though and almost everyone else looks like they are enjoying it too. The exceptions look like people who came into the centre not realizing that anything was happening and are scurrying away looking slightly discomfited.

It's pleasant human sized event. I think that the actually LGBTQA+ people here are heavily outnumbered by locals and tourists just enjoying the fun. There's also at least one hen do parading around with an inflatable doll and and inflatable penis.

@ninalanyon It is very comforting that a smallish "human sized" event was being enjoyed by non LGBTI+ people. It's how it should be, enjoy other people having fun.

@22Michelle That's been the message of every such event I know of: let's just all get on whether one is gay, les, trans, straight, or any other flavour of human being. I'm pretty sure that not everyone at Sparkle was trans, some were obviously accompanying trans person but some just looked like straight people who'd come to see what was going on.

Sparkle also makes a point of being inclusive. There was a poster with a slogan that i can't quite remember but it said something like: There are no degrees of trans, all are equally welcome and valued whether a closet cross dresser or a post op transperson or anyone in between. It was shorter and better said than my version but I just can't bring it to mind.
