Still in bed and it's almost eleven. Stayed up late last night watching Jeremy Brett and co. in the Sign of Four. Jeremy Brett was by far the best Holmes.

Even cooler today, only 15 C at the moment and rain is threatened for later.

Had a slightly unpleasant episode today regarding a payment from my bank. My two eldest sons still live at home so we share the costs of food, electricity, etc,. by sending each other emails saying what we spent in the preceding month. We divide the totals by three and pay to each others bank accounts. Because my side of it has more and larger transactions I include the list of relevant transactions in my email just in case I make a mistake and include something that is mine alone. I generate this semi-automatically with a some scripts on my laptop.

We've been doing this for several years without any problems but today i got an email from No. 2 son querying one of the items. When I looked at it I realized that I didn't recognize it either. So I logged in to my bank and looked at what the bank calls the details of the transaction. That wasn't enlightening, it just repeated the useless words that were in the statement. So I used the chat function on my bank's web site to ask about it but the woman on the other end couldn't provide any more information about to whom the payment was made and said the bank simply didn't have any more. Sounds bonkers to me. She was able to provide a fairly exact point in time though.

But the breakthrough came when it belatedly dawned on me that I really do use SW as a diary. So I looked at the entry for the day in question and immediately understood what it was. I feel rather foolish for not thinking to look there straightaway.

I'm beginning to think that I might as well throw out most of my knickers. I wore a lacy pair today but after about twenty minutes walk it was clear that they weren't holding everything in place, not a major problem because I'm wearing a slightly longer dress oday . But it started to feel uncomfortable too. So I found a secluded corner of a car park and swapped them for the thong I keep in my handbag, now I feel comfortable and secure.

Having scones and clotted cream with an Americano in a curiously incongruous café. It's in what I suppose is meant by Scandinavian style, all light wood, plain white walls, comfortable but simple furniture. But the oddest thing is that it is in the ground floor of the H&F estate agent and financial management company.

The problem with the term Scandinavian style is that the various Scandinavian countries actually have noticeably different styles.

@ninalanyon I suppose the adjective is there merely to mean lots of (ply)wood and to sound foreign therefore trendy!

I took my camera with me on my brief walk around Ulverston before the rain drove me back indoors.

In an art gallery window

I don't know for sure but I suppose that the rainbow of umbrellas are for Pride

Red squirrels on a gable end of the Squirrel shop. The shop was here last time (2023) but I didn't notice the squirrels that time.

This scene is a familiar one. But when I was in Ulverston in June 2023 the weather was better and there were fewer cars in this car park. I expected the murals to be different now because a woman I met while taking pictures there explained that they had an annual street art festival and that these murals were one of the results. But they are unchanged.

The Jitterbug shop, souvenirs and similar tat I think.

The view from my hotel window at four o'clock this afternoon

The background music in this café is exclusively '70s. I swear that Fairport Convention get more 'airtime' now than they did then. Now it's playing Elton John's Rocket Man.
