Nina's Blog - Monday 21st April 2025

Monday 21st April 2025, 21:25

Slept badly last night but eventually got to sleep properly at about 05:00. When I woke up it was 11:00!

Last night I promised myself that I'd do session on the elliptical trainer today but by the time I woke up I felt it was too late so I went for what I thought would be a short walk. But then I decided to go in a direction I haven't been for a couple of months and had a very nice walk along the Kyststien (coastal footpath) to the nature reserve observation tower.

For a change I'll mix the scenery shots with the selfies taken along the way.

This is the first picture of the day, looking from the main road towards the fjord across the strawberry field.

Looking back towards the village from the same spot

And here is the first selfie of the day, still only about 10 C so no mini skirt today

And the view to the west from the same place

I think I'll break this post up into several pieces because I took quite a few pictures today.

After the lupins I detoured inland to take the picture of the avenue of trees that the path runs through then walked back there and continued along the path. The path rejoins the main road a couple of hundred metres along but before you get there the ground starts to get distinctly boggy

The fence separates the footpath from the nature reserve and is intended to keep dogs out to prevent them scaring the birds. The top strand is electrified.

I've started to use the ultra-resolution feature of my phone cam so that I can get the equivalent of a zoom lense. The raw resolution is 64 mega pixel but this is normally downsampled to get a 16 MP image by combining groups of four pixels. I'm not sure but I think this is done directly by the sensor hardware. My reason for thinking this is that taking a 64 MP image takes several seconds, whereas a 16 MP image can be taken several times per second. The picture above was taken with the ordinary 16 MP feature. This next one is cropped from a 64 MP image of the same view

Now I have to walk along the road for about 200 m. Here's the view to the west

And here is the observation tower that looks out over the bird reserve.

It was really difficult to get good pictures in this washed out, almost monochrome light, especially looking south. Here's the view from the top floor of the tower

There was no one else there so I could take selfies without feeling silly or having people offer to take pictures for me.

On the way back I noticed this fungus growing on the end of a log

And here lichen growing all over the rocks and over a dead log

And here is the view inside the avenue of birch trees enclosing the path looking towards home

When I got to the building on the corner where the footpath joins the road I noticed that a rectangular plot of wood chips had been laid. I don't know what they intend to grow there but presumably something because you can see a pipe going in at the corner that i think must be for irrigation.

But all that is groing there so far is a few dandelions. Just in time for St Georges day!

And at last after another twenty minutes walk I'm back home to take one last selfie for the day to show the top that I was wearing under the jacket.

Time for my beauty sleep, sweet dreams all.

@ninalanyon That is a lovely outfit Nina. The color is very nice on you.
Thank you for your pictures and narrative about the area. You live in a beautiful place

@turbineman40 Thank you Billie Jean. I'm so pleased with how the outfit went together that I've hung it all on the same hanger, treating it as a suit. Except for the hat.

I think there must be beautiful areas everywhere. The difference here is that so much of it it is easily accessible and close to home. The whole walk from home to observation tower and back to home was only about an hour and three quarters, eight and a half thousand steps. No motor transport of any kind needed :-)
