Nina's Blog - Friday 18th October 2024

Didn't bother going out today. Just getting the summer wheels and tyres in from the car and down the stairs to the cellar was enough exertion for this morning. And I finally got around to calling the bank that is getting out of the private banking business to ask them to sell the mutual funds that i have there. It seems that the bank where I have my current account can't administer this particular fund. This means that I will have about 35 kUSD of extra cash but that I will have to pay tax of the capital gain in the next tax return.

Anyway, no outdoor pictures today but here is today's outfit; a black knitted minidress and opaque tights

I've just been browsing Aurelius' Meditations. Whenever I do this I find a passage that I haven't noticed, or at least one that I haven't paid attention to. Here is one that struck me this evening. Even an atheist can appreciate the sentiment
The Fifth Book: VII. The form of the Athenians' prayer did run thus: 'O rain, rain, good Jupiter, upon all the grounds and fields that belong to the Athenians.' Either we should not pray at all, or thus absolutely and freely; and not every one for himself in particular alone.

Just heard on BBC R4 evening news:
Pakistan's tricksy twirlymen bamboozle England's batters.
