Nina's Blog - Tuesday 30th July 2024

Just a placeholder for the day's drivel. I often wonder about diarists, especially people like Pepys, how do they find time to write so much. Pepys even wrote in cipher.

But on many days, especially when visiting family I end up trying to write my diary after midnight (hence the odd timestamps) and find it hard to summon the energy to write more than half a dozen words.

Diarists like Samual Peyps lived in times with far fewer distractions.

I've tried keeping diaries, not everyday but recording hobbies, holidays and the like; but can never keep them up for long!

@ArishMell There might have been fewer types of distraction. But Pepys was a busy man nonetheless, eventually becoming Chief Secretary to the Admiralty under both King Charles II and King James II. He instituted important reforms at the Admiralty. And of course he had a substantial number of affairs and flirtations.

@ninalanyon Oh he was certainly busy - perhaps keeping a diary helped him keep track of his life!

Errr, why has SW tagged your post "Nudity"? There is not a single disrobed Jacobean in sight!

@ArishMell How very odd. Perhaps it was the mention of flirtations!
