Nina's Blog - Tuesday 2nd July 2024

Tuesday 2nd July 2024, 08:53

I was going to go to Bamburgh on public transport but it takes about three and a half hours, nearly three times what it would take to drive. And it would cost about 9 GBP including parking my car at the nearest Park and Ride station. Whereas it will cost me nothing to drive there except possibly for a car parking fee at Bamburgh.

So once I've decided on today's outfit I'll be off. Probably wearing a jumper, it's only 12 C and not expected to get warmer than 16 C today with total cloud cover all day. Tights again I think.

Pictures from The Alnwick Garden. I didn't actually go inside but there was plenty to see in Alnwick anyway.

Here is pretty much the first thing I noticed as I walked towards the entrance, everyone else just walked straight past!

Presumably this is the maker's mark

Pictures from Bamburgh that have little or nothing to do with the castle

Guess which footprints are mine

Can someone explain to me the reasoning behind this notice banning drones?
[image - please log in to see this image]

It claims that the reason for the ban is that the site is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI)

What harm does a drone do to the site compared to the tens of thousands of people walking all over it do?

Or is it really that they just want a monopoly of aerial photographs of the castle?

Walking across the dunes in shoes was fine and so was walking along the beach but getting down from the dunes to the beach filled my shoes with sand

Three and a half hours? Where from? Is that due to distance or simply a lack of transport?
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@ArishMell It's about 80 km, at least two buses and possibly a trip on the Metro plus at least half an hour of walking unless I drive to a park and ride.. The price is actually pretty good 6.80 GBP for a day ticket covering the whole of Northumberland.
Havesomefun2 · 56-60, M
@ninalanyon many years ago there was a Disney movie filmed in the castle and my uncle was in it ( fame)

Today's outfit is a white blouse, blue denim miniskirt, black tights, my most sensible shoes, and my practical hat. Pictures taken in Seahouses.

the ladder in my tights is the result of taking a wrong turning on the path from the beach to the castle in Bamburgh.

Having a German apple cake and a pot of tea in the Seahouses Café. Very enjoyable

And the café itself is a pleasant place to sit.
