In Sid's Cafe having tea and a toasted teacake. No WiFi though. The signal from Beatties Café next door is very strong though, pity I haven't got the password so this is being posted much later.

It's decorated with pictures from Last of the Summer Wine. They are playing up the connection for all it's worth with loads of themed merchandise from postcards to framed prints and keyrings to teapots.

As I arrived at the centre of Holmfirth I spotted a pair of motorbikes and their ageing owners. As we passed each other one of them pointed at my bare feet and smiled broadly. I took pictures of their bikes. Actually one is a trike and the other is a Triumph with a sidecar. In the sidecar is a huge teddy bear. The bear was not wearing a helmet, I wonder if I should report it?

The walk from Thongsbridge was pleasant. It was a bit more up and down than expected but that's good for me.

Here's today's outfit taken at about halfway to Holmfirth

I decided to wear a pair of lacy knickers instead of my usual thong. It wasn't until I'd walked too far to be willing to turn back to change them that I remembered, or rather was reminded, why this particular pair is usually reserved for play time. They don't have enough stretch, so a certain part of my anatomy has a tendency to escape.

Anyway, just in case anyone is interested here is the rear view

It's a lovely day but I did catch the end of a general weather forecast for England that seemed to be saying that there was a high temperature warning for most of England. But the local forecast for the area from yr.no has a maximum of 22 degrees Celsius today, perfect strolling weather.

Now I'm in the Elephant and Castle having a pint of Timothy Taylor's Landlord and a packet of Walkers crisps. Walkers are definitely not as good as Pipers.

Just had a long chat with the couple at the next table. She asked about my being barefoot and reckoned it was a brave thing to do. I did my best to change her mind, you never know if the idea might stick. We exchanged pleasantries about the Dales and how pleasant an area this is to visit. She recommended Lincolnshire as well while I recommended Krakow. When I mentioned that I lived in Norway she asked how that came to be so I explained the story and how it was essentially an accident, an example of how one should grab opportunities when they arise.

Earlier, while I was just wandering randomly about Holmfirth, a man asked me if I was lost; this happens to me a lot. After I explained that I was merely wandering he launched into a long explanation about the redevelopment of the street we were standing on (behind the disused market building). Eventually he asked how long I'd been living in the area. I replied that I was only staying a week and that I actually live in Norway. Unsurprisingly it turns out that he was in the Bergen area on a fishing trip two years ago. I recommended that if he were to find himself in Norway again that he should visit the Vigeland's sculptures in Frogner Park. He suggested that a place worth visiting in Holmfirth is the old prison up the hill somewhere above the church. I'll look it up.

@ninalanyon You meet very interesting people on your walks. Do you get asked about your dressing?

Seen on the walk from Thongsbridge to Holmfirth this morning

Some burrows beside the path

A fallen log turned into a seat

A weir on the river Holme

A Yorkshire totem pole? With a ring of painted rocks

The bridge from the woods to the skate park and recreation ground

I'm rather pleased with this view

Holmfirth Cricket Club

In the lane from the cricket club to the Coop

The ramp up to the car park is a little awkward. I don't mean because I am barefoot but I suspect that those less steady on their feet or using a stick might be at risk of tripping

And here we are officially welcomed to Holmfirth

The route continues through the car park and over the river again where I encountered this banner :-)

Seen in Holmfirth today.

The PictureDrome

The inside of Sid's Cafe

The Nook pub and brewery, formerly the Rose and Crown

Some good advice spotted in a charity shop

The Holmfirth Edible Garden. A notice encourages people to take whatever they want. I took a white onion. It looks as though it could do with a bit more attention the soil seemed rather dry.

Next to the Edible garden, a paved area with seats and some art work, surrounded by foliage

More on that later.

In the same area, two plaques

Another teashop connecting itself to Last of the Summer Wine

I set off on the way back to the cottage but spotted the Cheese Shop had seats outside so I'm having a nice pork pie with a below average Americano.

They seem quite disorganized.

The saucy postcards as promised. Seen in the stairwell of the local library:

Some that resonated with me

And a problem I'd love to have

@turbineman40 The problem is though that they don't fit well at the front!
