Listening to Marianne Faithful's 1969 performance of Sister Morphine on Radio Caroline from the new CD Songs of Innocence and Experience. Quite different from Jagger's performance on Sticky Fingers even though Jagger was the producer on Marianne's. I found myself much more affected by her version than I remember being by the Stones'.
Here it is on Youtube:

Listening to Marianne Faithful on YouTube talking about writing Sister Morphine. I didn't realize that she wrote it, and more importantly that she wrote it from personal experience.

Does explain why she sings it with such conviction.
