Nina's Blog - Cafés

This is an attempt to gather together a list of the cafés I have visited so that I have a single place to go to to remind myself of places that might be worth visiting again.

Work in progress.

Malmesbury Abbey

Great cheese and onion toasties. And you might get a chance to hear a choral rehearsal while having your snack. It can be difficult to find a place to park unless you are willing to park in a residential street outside the centre and walk in. The building is lovely inside and out and the surroundings pleasant.

You spend a lot of time in Nottingham?
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@SW-User Perhaps I should add it to my list of places to visit. Is there anywhere, apart from the obvious places, that I should consider?
SW-User
@ninalanyon you have put me on the spot never ever thought about it.
There are an awful lot of beach walks Cleethorpes has miles of walks as well as Donna Nook which is also a seal sanctuary.
There are a few national trust sites like Belton estate. Grimsby has a fishing heritage museum and a drive round the wolds some beautiful little villages.

@SW-User Thank you. Somehow I never think of the coast when Lincolnshire is mentioned but I've been to Cleethorpes a couple of times but only for a day each time and my wife and I stopped overnight in Skegness a decade ago. And never really visited Grimsby, just drove through it on the way to Cleethorpes. The coast was awfully windy!

Any good cafes or tea shops in the villages?

Skaperverket Café (Salvation Army), Tønsberg, Norway

Very reasonably priced. And very comfortable, furnished with very old fashioned furniture.

IKEA Slependen, Norway

Reliable, roomy. Much quieter than IKEA restaurants in the UK. Also more comfortable than IKEA at Furuset.

Relatively expensive but the coffee includes a refill and the cheesecake is very pleasant.

Champagne Bar, Spanish City, Whitley Bay

Splendid location, perfectly reasonable prices, glorious decor. I half expected Miss Marple to be sitting at the next table. Or to see Captain Hastings at the bar

Had a pint of beer and a cake and sat by a window looking out to sea.

@SW-User Thank you! That's very kind of you. More pictures from another visit to Spanish City in the entry for 3rd July this year: https://similarworlds.com/social/blogs/5047067-Ninas-Blog-Wednesday-3rd-July-2024

Divine Coffee House, Nottingham

Didn't try the coffee but the pots of tea are good.

A rather badly focussed picture of an excellent pot of tea and an excellent veggie sausage roll

And the outfit of the day, at least until I changed in the café's loo

Good coffee, very good cinnamon bun

The pretty young lady who made my coffee complimented me on my scarf

The name is a sort of play on words, the logo is a stylised Labrador.

Bede's Bakehouse, Newcastle.

Excellent quiche! Cooked by the friendly lady who serves it. Highly recommended.
