You need not to tell the details. Some people just need it to have an idea about you so they can relate to you.
You can just tell them your country, age range and department you work.

@1Dogma Yes, maybe it's easy for you to understand and reply if somebody is saying that she feels alone, but for other people like me, they need to know weather that person is a 13 year old girl or 50 years old lady before they can reply appropriately. There are many things where we need to have an idea about them to relate understand and reply accordingly. For some people it's even difficult to start a healthy conversation before getting that idea. I am not talking about disclosing your personal details like complete address, phone, company name etc. You may have not felt that but in some conversations you will realise the need of that in some way or another.
